Conditions Governing the Issuance of Visas and
Reasons for Visa Denial
A visa is issued to a foreigner who has a valid travel
document if its validity period exceeds the validity period of the requested visa by 3
months.
A visa does not entitle a foreigner to studying, working or engaging in any other activity
that generates revenue in the Republic of Lithuania.
Place of Issue
Visas are issued in diplomatic missions and consular
posts of the Republic of Lithuania.
In case there is no Lithuanian diplomatic missiom or consular post in your country, please
apply through the nearest or most convenient one for you to travel to.
Type of Visa
Short-term visa (C) entitles a foreigner to
enter the Republic of Lithuania and stay in the country for up to 3 months within half a
year from the date of the first entry into the Republic of Lithuania. A short-term visa
may be issued for a single or a multiple entry. A single entry short-term visa may be
issued to a foreigner for a single visit to the Republic of Lithuania during the period of
validity of the visa. A multiple entry short-term visa may be issued to a foreigner for
the period of one year or, in exceptional cases, for the period longer than one year but
not longer than 5 years. A short-term visa is issued when a foreigner intends to
enter the Republic of Lithuania for the purposes of tourism, visiting relatives or other
persons, professional interest or other short-term stay.
Group visas shall be issued to a group of
foreign citizens consisting of 5-30 members on the condition that a guide shall be
appointed to the group and the group shall have the same purpose of visit, follow the same
travel route, arrive at the same place and time, stay at the same location and depart at
the same time.
Proper Documents
Short-stay Visa (C)
An alien wishing to obtain a single-entry short-stay
visa (C) must submit the following documents to the institution issuing visas:
a completed application
in the prescribed form; (pdf)
a valid travel document (its period of validity must
exceed the validity period of the requested visa by at least three months);
one 35 x 45 mm color photograph corresponding to the
age of the alien;
documents substantiating valid health insurance
coverage;
an approved invitation, except for cases when such
an invitation is not required or when another document equivalent to the invitation is
presented;*
documents substantiating the right to return to the
state of origin or the state in which the alien is a citizen or a permanent resident or
the right to enter a third state;
a power of attorney certified by a notary public or
in an equivalent manner when the application for a visa is lodged by an authorised
representative on behalf of an alien;
when required, documents substantiating the purpose
and conditions of the intended visit, available means of subsistence or a source where the
alien is in a position to acquire such means while travelling through the territory of the
Republic of Lithuania to another, the means available for return to the state of origin or
for travel to another state.
The consular fee for a short-stay visa (C)
is 35 €.
Group Visas
To obtain visa (C) for a group of aliens, the
following documents must be submitted to visa services:
documents for each member of the group necessary to
obtain a visa of the required type. To obtain a short-stay visa, an invitation by a legal
person (see section 6) for a group of aliens to visit the Republic of Lithuania must be
submitted;
a list of the members of the group specifying the
appointed group leader (2 copies)
Invitations and their Types
An original copy of the invitation must always be
submitted to visa services. Subject to an agreement from visa services, a copy of the
invitation may be sent by fax or electronic mail. An invitation for an alien to visit the
Republic of Lithuania may be signed by a natural or legal person.
